About the Family Foundation Fund
In the early 90’s our founder, Onnie Kirk, became painfully aware of the demise of family in the African –American community. After research it became evident that the cause of this demise was the absence of fathers. In 1993, Onnie began taking two young men to work with him, and the Family Foundation Fund began. The days were spent working, teaching, training and sharing about his life and experiences. That summer, Onnie invited the young men to live with him and his large family. The goal was for them to experience family life, and learn the ways of authentic Christ-centered manhood.
Statistics show that children who are raised in families without a strong father role model experience significant emotional, physical, social and financial problems later in life. Since 1993, the Family Foundation Fund, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, has served the Metro Nashville and Middle Tennessee areas by providing a mentoring program to fatherless and disadvantaged boys, ages ten years old and older.
Over the past 19 years, fifty-eight boys have been mentored. The results speak for the success of the program. None of our program graduates have criminal records, none have been teenage fathers, 100 percent of those completing the program went on to college, our armed forces, or are working full time as productive citizens.
